In my reinvented school

by Ayushi Yadav

If I could completely remove myself from the current system of school, I would not make buildings, exams or books.

I would start with one simple question: What makes a student curious?

Today, many schools teach us what to think, not how to think. We fit in rows. We study from books. We warry about marks. We are told that success means scoring higher marks than others. But learning is not a race. Learning is growing. So, I would reinvent learning way that's feels natural and honest.

Firstly, I would make school a center of curiosity. Instead of starting with subjects like math, science or history, I would start with questions. A child might ask, "why is the sky blue? Another might ask, "why do people fight?" From these questions, learning would grow.

Math would become in real-life so that students get help for measuring things. Science would come from exploring nature. History would come from trying to understand people. Learning would not feel forced.

It would feel like to discovering things from simple steps. Students would display collaboration instead of displaying insecurity. Secondly, I would try to remove the fear of failure from students. In many schools, mistake are punished with low marks. But mistakes are teachers. If we are afraid to be wrong, we stop trying.

In my reinvented school, mistakes would be celebrated. If something doesn't work. We would ask ourselves, what did we learn from this? Not, why did you fail?

This would make my students brave. And bravery is more important to be perfect. I would never coerce my students to study.
