Reading the World through the Word | Shreya Khemani, New Learning Centre
1 hr 30 min
About The Workshop
What if literacy classrooms were not about staring at words alone in confusion and more like stepping into a conversation - an invitation to see, connect, question and reshape the world? This session immerses participants in an expanded experience of literacy — where breaking the code, making meaning, using texts, and examining power happen together, from the very start. Come, step into a classroom where meaning thrives and reading becomes critical, collective and alive with possibility.
About The Facilitator
Shreya Khemani, a teacher and activist, co-founded the centre with women trade union activists to extend critical education beyond primary school. New Learning Centre is an educational space in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, committed to equity and social justice at a time of deepening inequality and exam-driven schooling. It views education as a tool for social transformation—joyful when purposeful, effective when free from fear, and grounded in cooperation over competition.
The Circle is building a network of reinvented schools, programs, and teacher institutions that empower students from low-income communities to build an India free of poverty and filled with love.
